Today on Kansas.com.

This story about a talking doll was front and center today on the Wichita paper's Web site.

The sweet little infant sounds like it's saying "Islam is the light." Is it intentional? Who knows. I'm old enough to remember the infamous backmasking trial during which Rob Halford, completely straight faced, showed the court the absurdity of the assertions that Judas Priest had implanted evil messages on their records--messages that only revealed themselves when played backwards. Ooooh.

Really, in this tense political climate, do we need to make a story about MAYBE proselytizing dolls top news to incite more fear about Islam? You've heard what's been going down at these McCain and Palin rallies. I won't even link to any of those clips because I can't bear to watch and listen. But you know what's being said about Obama. He's a terrorist! Off with his head! The mob mentality frightens me. So getting back to the doll, I did some searching online and found favorable product reviews going back a few months, presumably before this whole scandal hit. Hmmm. Are these crazy times just begging for us to hear an unsolicited message?

Frankly, I think all talking dolls are pretty creepy. I don't care what the hell they're saying. And the people who repeat the same message of hate over and over again when you pull the string? They're even creepier.

My favorite (fake) talking doll: Malibu Stacy, who says "Math is hard!"
